पहाड़ी विधवा से सम्बंधित पहाड़ी कहावतें

उत्तराखंड के पहाड़ों में हर कदम, हर जुलूस हर जलसे के दौरन मातृशक्ति के नारे लगना आम है पर इसी पहाड़ में कालांतर से ही विधवा माँओं के ख़िलाफ़ भद्दा, भोडा और घिनौने कहावतों की झड़ी लगती रही है। इन कहावतों में सिर्फ़ विधवा माँओं को कलंकित करने का प्रयास नहीं किया गया है बल्कि उन विधवा माँओं के बच्चों को भी अपमानित किया गया है। उन्ही विधवा से सम्बंधित पहाड़ी कहावतों में से चुनिंदा दस कहवाते निम्नलिखित है: 

विधवा और कहावत:

1.) रांड का दिनजावन छोरा का दिन आवन (The day of the widow has gone, but the day of the orphan boy is to come) Often used to encourage an orphan son and his mother to try their best to help themselves. 

2.) रांड का छोरा लग्यो लोई होई मौ ढ़ूँगा में धोई (The pampered son of a widow in his arrogance and excess brought the wealthy family to ruin.) This is applicable to one who has no one to look after him or control his bad conduct. 

3.) मरिरेरांड खटाई बिना (A widow dying for want of acid.) Used in condemning bad habits. Acid is tho most insignificant part of one’s food, and can easily be dispensed with. To die for want of acid is to die for want of some thing that is not necessary, but one addicted to it cannot remain happy or contented without it. 

4.) रांड देखी मपका छोरों देखी दनखा (Oppressing the widow and frightening orphan children. )

5.) रांड को सांड सौदागर को घोड़ा खालो भौत कमालो थोड़ा (The son of a widow and the pony of a merchant eat much but earn little. )  A widow’s son is petted and lives in idleness, and a merchant’s (riding) horse has but little work to do. Also used of an indolent fellow who boasts much but does little work.

6.) गाँव खोव रांड साग खोव माँड़ (A widow ruins a village and the mdnda {water in which rice has been cooked) spoils vegetable food)

7.) गाड़ का मुख पगार रांड का मुख गार (Who would build a wall across the mouth of a stream, and who would abuse a widow to her face.) One who abuses a widow brings upon himself a shower of abuse. Used of impossible or foolish attempts)

8.) रांड भांड अरना भैंसा बिगड़ गया तो करना कैसा (If a widow, a buffoon, and a wild buffalo, become mad or angry, what is to be done) There is no remedy. Caution to deal carefully with violent people. [The widow in Hindu society, being neglected and despised and made to do the most menial duties, usually developes a shrewish temper. 

9) भै रांड नारि गे लाज सारि (No sooner does a woman become a widow then she loses all shame)

10.) से रूनो तेरा बबा का सांथ नहैगोछ हडी रूनोछ (Sleep for me has gone with thy father, now I can only lie {like a log). 

पहाड़ से परे विधवा:

‘रांड सांड सीढ़ी सन्यासी इनसे बचे तो भोगे काशी’

गंगा के मैदानों में उपरोक्त कहावत को खूब सुना होगा आपने। इस कहावत का इस्तेमाल तो दीपा मेहता द्वारा निर्देशित और भारत सरकार द्वारा प्रतिबंधित प्रसिद्ध हिंदी फ़िल्म ‘Water’ (2005) में भी किया गया है। इस फ़िल्म को भारत सरकार ने इस तर्क के आधार पर प्रतिबंधित कर दिया था कि इस फ़िल्म से भारतीय समाज और संस्कृति की बदनामी होगी क्यूँकि इस फ़िल्म में विधवा प्रथा के घिनौने पक्ष को उजागर किया गया है।

पहाड़ और पहाड़ी समाज व संस्कृति की बदनामी तो विधवा से सम्बंधित उपरोक्त दस पहाड़ी कहावतों से भी होगी पर क्या इसका विकल्प ये हो सकता है कि इन कहावतों को इतिहास के सभी पन्नो से मिटा दिया जाय? अगर पन्नो से इन विधवा सम्बंधित कहावतों को मिटाने में हमारी सरकार और समाज सफल भी हो जाए तो क्या लोगों के ज़हन और व्यक्तित्व से इन कहावतों के पीछे छुपे कहानियों को मिटाया जा सकता है?
