Gandhi & Bihar:
It’s been 75 years since Gandhi Ji was shot dead on 30 January 1948. But the killing of icons of peace, love and truth has never stopped in the last 75 years. This is an attempt to reimagine Gandhi and Social Transformations he always stood for in the contemporary context. Through a series of events including cartoon exhibitions, research paper presentations, theatre and Padyatra, idea is to decontextualise Gandhi and the life he stood for. This is to liberate this Mahatma from the Mahatmahood he never stood for and see how Gandhi Ji was one among us. This is to look at ‘Gandhi in Us’ or ‘Us in Gandhi.’
In the last almost two decades Bihar had surprised many with several parameters of developments. Apart from the calculation of development in terms of GDP, financial transactions, FDI, unemployment etc, there is a need to understand some of the social transforming decisions of the Bihar government in the field of gender empowerment and Gandhian imagination of transformation. Though the conference encourages research papers on Bihar we would be happy to look at Bihar in a larger context in comparison to other parts of the country.
We invite participants to initiate a dialogue centring on the themes of the conference and sub-themes listed below but not limited to:
- Women’s Participation in Socio-Political Movements;
- Women’s Rights for Political Representation;
- Politics of Liquor Ban,
- SHGs,
- Women Entrepreneurship,
- Women’s Claims for Public Spaces etc
Apart from the faculty members from different universities in India, we would love to see research papers on the above-mentioned themes from young research scholars from all around the country.

Please send the abstract of your individual papers in 250-300 words along with a short bio-note indicating their research stage (150 words) to subaltern1@gmail.com by 31st March 2023.
