पहाड़ी कहावतों के सहारे महिला का अपमान ?

उत्तराखंड राज्य आंदोलन हो या चिपको आंदोलन या फिर ग्रामीण पहाड़ परिवेश में लोगों की दैनिक दिनचर्या, पहाड़ों की मातृशक्ति (महिला) के योगदान को सर्वोपरि माना जाता है। उत्तराखंड के बाहर के लोगों के लिए बद्रीनाथ और केदारनाथ उत्तराखंड के सर्वाधिक महत्वपूर्ण देवता होंगे लेकिन उत्तराखंड के लोगों के लिए सर्वाधिक महत्वपूर्ण और पवित्र देवता भी नंदा देवी भी एक महिला ही है। इसके अलावा ज़्यादातर स्थानिय पहाड़ी मंदिरों में देवियाँ ही निवास करती है। 

पर इतिहास से प्रचलित महिला से सम्बंधित ज़्यादातर पहाड़ी कहावतें औरतों के बारे अपमानजनक है। इन कहावतों में विधवा तक को नहीं छोड़ा गया है, महिला के नेतृत्व की क्षमता को अपमानित किया गया, महिला को फ़ज़ूलखर्ची बताया गया, और यहाँ तक उनके मातृत्व तक को कलंकित किया गया।

महिला और कहावतें

• 1. तिरिया चरित्र जाने न को खसम मारि सत्ती हो (Kills her husband and then becomes a Sati: who knows the ways of women?) (a certain women being in love with another man killed her husband at night at the instigation of her paramour, giving out that thieves had done it. But in the morning she went as a Sati with the body of her husband).
  2. भै रांड नारि गे लाज सारि (No sooner does a woman become a widow then she loses all shames). 
  3. रांड न को पांजो गौं पड़ो बांजो (If a women manage a village it will become a desert) (This corresponds with what is elsewhere said, that one who acts on the advice or direction of woman, boy, or enemy is sure to meet with ruin eventually). 
  4. बदन को नि लत्ता मिस्सी लगाव अल्पत्ता (has no cloth for body but needs Missi (a power used for colouring the teeth by fashionable native women). 
  5. एक दांत को मोल करो बत्तीस खोल दिया (Applied to shameless women)
  6. केडै कि तापणी देवर कि आपणि (The fire of dried twigs is like the endearment of the Dewara after the death of her husband). 
  7. रौतौ अपणा आप नि रौ तौ अपणा बाप (A woman will remain chaste herself, but not by her father’s command). 
  8. रांड सांड की क्या परतीत (A woman and a bullock are not to be trusted)
  9. सैणिले खोलांदंत बैकले पै अंत (When a woman shows her teeth (Speak) man finds her motive). 
  10. रूंदी रांड चुंदी पांड (A weeping woman and a leaking upper story) (Continual dropping in a very rainy day, and a contentious women are alike)
  11. औतो चाई सौतो प्यारो (better to have a stepson than to be childless (because this will give son to husband). 
  12. रांड की मुंडली ढोलकी कुंडली कसीक भलो बुलाँद (The head of a woman and that of a drum give good sound when well tied and beaten). 
  13. नाज़ कुनाज़ डूमन मोटी (The grain is bad, and the woman is a fat and strong Dumani (low caste women)(applied to a useless person). 
  14. कुकुर चेला बिरालू चेला मै रांडी चेला (The dog have sons, the cats have sons, I, an accursed woman, have also sons). 
  15. सासु बवारि एक छूयाल रांड छेके (other in law or daughter in law are one, the woman who caused them to quarrel is cursed). 
  16. कवा कि ब्यान (Applied to a woman who bears only one child)
  17. और न देंद हाको डाको आप रांडन हुड़किया  राखो (A female who lectures others on chastity is herself in love with a drummer (Hurhakiya is a man of the lowest caste even among the Dumas)
  18. रांडकि यारी सदा ख्वारी (Association with a woman is always ruinous).
  19. यार कुं जयुं त्युं जाणो द्वीचेला पछा (If a women is determined to go to a paramour, why should she go after she gives birth to two sons in her husband’s house). 
  20. बिराणि देखी लाई पैराइ अपनी देखी नांगी बाप की अकल गई वहि नमांगी (Seeing his wife naked, and that of another well clothed and adorned, the man says that his father was a fool inasmuch as he did not espouse the other woman to him). 
  21. छूयाल रांड छूयों भुलि डोखरि पुंगडि मलसा फूलि (a talkative women, by indulging in conversation, has her fields overgrown with weeds) (applied to one who lazily leaves his work undone, or indulges in useless amusements). 
  22. अलसि स्यैनि को दूधसाग निरबूधोहाकमको क़सम भाख (A lazy woman eats her rice with milk alone, and a dull headed officer disposes of his cases by making the parties resort to an oath). 
  23. राज हट जोग तिरिया हट (The firmness of a king, an ascetic and a woman are alike)
  24. बदल्यां देव की घाम चड़ाक ढाटा मैस की लाठी धड़ाक (sunstroke on a cloudy day is like the stroke given by a paramour) (a woman can willingly bear the ill treatment of her husband, on the consideration that she is married to him, but a stroke from her paramour (or one with whom she lives without marriage bond) is unbearable, as sunstroke on a cloudy day causes more harm than on a bright day).
  25. जसी रांड तसै दिसान (as the women (dancing girl) so her carpet) 
  26. रांडी घरमांड़ी पति ब्रताको कड़ाका (It is strange that a harlot has an abundance of every thing, and a chaste woman starves)
